Overview

The AAM Home School group is producing a self-paced, self-guided curriculum for North Carolina Home School students, grades 3 through 12. Development and testing of the lessons has taken place throughout the 2002-2003 school year. The 1.0 version will be finished and available on-line in the fall of 2003. The current prerelease version is available on-line at the AAM Home School web site. In 2004, a version of the home school lessons will be available on CD-ROM.

Home School Program Makes WNC News WLOS-TV 13 featured the AAM Home School Program in its evening news broadcast in October. Home schooling parents and students are now using the self-paced, self-guided online curriculum in several computer labs across Western North Carolina. Note: The recorded volume is low. Requires Windows Media Player 9.

Learning Styles

Lessons have been created to address three different learning styles:

• auditory
• visual
• kinesthetic

Auditory learners have the option of hearing instructions, visual learners may use step-by-step screen shots, and kinesthetic learners have special hands-on projects. For example, there are special hands-on projects for the music, art and science areas in the lesson plan.

Standards

The curriculum meets the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and International Society of Technology Educators Standards.
